Derek St. Holmes (born February 24, 1953) is an American musician, best known as the vocalist and rhythm guitar player for Ted Nugent's early solo career, playing on many albums including the multi-platinum live album Double Live Gonzo!. While Nugent claims to have written most of the music during this period of time, St. Holmes claims the albums were co-written by the whole band, and that Nugent took sole credit as a way to not pay them royalties.

After splitting from Ted Nugent in 1978, St. Holmes worked with various artists; most notably Brad Whitford of Aerosmith for the Whitford/St. Holmes project. Derek St. Holmes possesses a powerful tenor singing voice.

"Just What the Doctor Ordered" is the fourth track from "Ted Nugent" the debut studio album by American hard rock musician Ted Nugent. The album was released in September 1975, by Epic Records. It was released after the disbanding of his former group The Amboy Dukes.

St. Holmes' sang tracks such as "Stranglehold", "Queen of the Forest", "Hey Baby", "Just What the Doctor Ordered" and "Snakeskin Cowboys"

Lyrics

I got my guitar when I was 10 years old

Found a love in rock an' roll

Now I'm on the verge of a nervous breakdown

I'm gonna give my body and soul

It's so crazy

But you know that I like it

I've found a cure for my body and soul

I've got me an overdose of rock and roll

I jammed everyday

I jammed every night

I practiced till I knew all the licks

Now I'm on the verge of a nervous breakdown

I don't know the meaning of quit

It's so crazy

Yes you know, but I like it

It crushes my head, my brain is on the border

But this is what the doctor ordered

Yes, it is

I jammed everyday

I jammed every night

I practiced till I knew all the licks

Now I'm on the verge of a nervous breakdown

I don't know the meaning of quit

It's so crazy

But I like it

It crushes my head, my brain is on the border

But this is what the doctor ordered
